The Spirit Of The Lord

Judges 11:28-32
Then the Spirit of the Lord came upon Jephthah, and he passed over Gilead, and Manasseh … (Judges 11:29).

A common feature among the Judges was the presence of the Holy Spirit. Each of them was possessed by the Spirit of the Lord to do their jobs. When the Spirit of the Lord came upon Jephthah, he moved in the right direction to face the enemy.

For God to use us, we must be filled with His Spirit because “by strength shall no man prevail” (1 Samuel 2:8). Even Jesus was filled with the Holy Spirit because He could begin His ministry (Matthew 3:16). He became anointed to fulfil His purpose. So he said, “The Spirit of the Lord is upon me because He has anointed me to do…” (Luke 4:16).

With Jesus’ declaration, we understood that the anointing is for work. It is for us to do something for His glory and to bless others. God cannot anoint you and not show you or tell you what you are to do with the anointing.

Referring to Jesus, Dr Luke says, “How God anointed Jesus of Nazareth with the Holy Ghost and with power: who went about doing good, and healing all that were oppressed of the devil; for God was with him” (Acts 10:38).

Friend, we need the anointing in everything that we do so that it can be done with the grace of God in order to reveal His mercy and excellence. Shalom.

Your Turn

  • Pray that you would be anointed with the power to do good in life and ministry.
  • Pray for the grace to focus on what you have been anointed to do and not covet others’ anointing and work.

Song: Anointing fall on me.
