The Culture Of Blessing Others

Deuteronomy 28: 1-14
Blessed shall you be in the city, and blessed shall you be in the country (Deuteronomy 28:3).

Reading through today’s Bible passage blessed my heart. What a joy to know that we can be blessed in so many ways by the Lord. It reminds me of the culture we see in the Book  of Ruth – the culture of blessing others.

When Boaz arrived in his field, he blessed his workers and they blessed him in return (See Ruth 2:4). When Ruth returned home and Naomi saw how much food she came back  with, she blessed the owner of the farm without even knowing who he was initially (see Ruth 2:19).

Friend, there is more to saying “the Lord bless you” than we know. When God blesses a man we can say that the Lord is empowering such person to prosper in life, to be protected and succeed in all they do.

It would be good if we are quick to bless than to curse. O! That we would be more open to understand that our words carry power and that the more we bless others, the more  their lives will reflect such blessings. Paul writes, “Bless and do not curse” (Romans 12:14).

When next you are tempted to curse someone, think of a blessing instead and bless them. When next you use the cliché, “Bless you”, do it with understanding knowing that the Lord’s blessing is more than ordinary greeting. May the Lord help us to develop the culture of blessing others in Jesus’ Name. Shalom.

Your Turn

  • Commit your tongue to the Lord.
  • Ask Him to help you to be more conscious of blessing others than cursing them.
