The Book of Judges

Judges 2:11-19
Nevertheless the Lord raised up judges, which delivered them out of the hand of those that spoiled them (Judges 2:16).

From today we will begin our study on the book of Judges. Reading through the book, I am convinced that the Lord will speak to us as we meditate on divine truths that will be revealed to us.

Matthew Henry writes, “The book of Judges is the history of Israel during the government of the Judges, who were occasional deliverers, raised up by God to rescue Israel from their oppressors, to reform the state of religion, and to  administer justice to the people”. These Judges ministered or ruled at various times in the history of Israel following the death of Joshua and the generation after him.

The Book of Judges is in fragments and it is not in order as we see in other historical books of the Bible. Many scholars believe that some of the events were concurrent (at the same time). About 350 years are covered by the Book of Judges. It covers the period that the nation of Israel was in problems and they needed help from God.

Many times, God would come in, save, deliver and restore  them to a season of peace and prosperity, yet they would go back into sin. As we go through this book, ask the Lord to speak to you. Ask Him to send you helpers when you need it so that you can be on the right track in life. Shalom.
