The Beginning Of His Ministry

Luke 3:21-23
Jesus was about 30 years old when he began his ministry.
Luke 3:23, GWT

Jesus’ ministry began with His baptism at the River Jordan under John the Baptist, his cousin. He was about 30 years old (Luke 3:23). He was filled with the Holy Spirit and led into the wilderness to be tempted by the devil (see Luke 4:1).

From the gospels’ account of His temptation, we can learn several lessons of life. They include:

  1.  The word of God should be our bread. We must desire it more than our necessary food. Jesus said, “It is written, Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word of God.’” (Luke 4:4).
  2. The Almighty God is to be worshipped. No other man, god, idol, created elements sun, moon, wood etc. deserves our worship.
  3. The word of God is a weapon. Jesus fought the enemy and won with the word. He continued to say, “It is written”. This tells us the importance of knowing the word of God and having it in our heart. The Bible says, “They overcame him by the blood of the Lamb and by the word of their testimony, and they did not love their lives to the death” (Revelation 12:11). The word of God in your mouth spoken by faith is your
    testimony!
  4. We must not be presumptuous to tempt God with our actions. Life has boundaries and we are not stupid. Falling from a height is stupidity, not spirituality.

Think of these things. Shalom.
