Taking Risks
1 Kings 18:19-46
Then you call on the name of your gods, and I will call on the name of the Lord; and the God who answers by fire, He is God.
1 Kings 18:24.
Risk takers are faith-filled people. They are God-focused and are blind to “circumstantial evidence”. They do not
allow what they see physically to deny them of what their hope has seen in the spirit realm. They develop the faith to see the physical manifestation of God’s promises.
Risk takers speak what they are expecting and make their boast in God. From the passage we read, Prophet Elijah
demonstrated faith and risk-taking for us as he engaged the prophets of Baal. From 1 Kings 18, we can deduce the
following on how to take a risk:
1. Encounter with God. Everyone who took a risk in God’s Name had a relationship with Him or with those who knew Him.
2. A word from God. You must have His word for what you are believing and risking your heart and life for.
3. Action. Step out in faith to obey His word.
4. Patience. Wait on God to do His part. Do not push things in your wisdom. Ishmael was a product of man’s scheme but Isaac, the son of promise, came at the appointed time.
5. Keep hope alive. God never fails and the righteous will not be forsaken (Psalm 37:25).
6. Celebrate your victory as you share your testimony.
Your Turn
- Pray: Thank You, Father, for being so reliable. I stake my hope on You as I wait to testify of Your power, love and mercy in my life and generation.
