She Stayed With Naomi

Ruth 2:23
So Ruth stayed close to the women of Boaz to glean until the barley and wheat harvests were finished. And she lived with her mother-in-law. (Ruth 2:23)

Ruth lived with her mother-in-law. Another virtue that is missing in our generation is commitment. We no longer see people being committed for long to a relationship, a job or
their faith in Christ. Our lives have become so dynamic and fluid.

What is commitment? Commitment is the state of being committed. It is the act of committing, pledging or engaging oneself in something or a relationship. To commit is to entrust, to bind or to pledge oneself to someone, a position or an issue. For example, when I say I am committed to writing devotionals, it means I have pledged myself to write on a regular basis irrespective of what I feel or my situation.

Ruth was committed to Naomi. She stayed with her. If this were our time, she might have found a reason to leave on arrival in Bethlehem; especially, now that she is working and could afford a home and fend for herself. But her pledge in chapter one was more important. She stayed. How many of us can do this? How often do we give excuses and default on our promises?

Friend, how committed are you to your relationship with God, your spouse and family? How committed are you to your job, school, raising your kids well etc? You see, these may  seem a little thing but we have seen how the lack of commitment has ruined homes and lives. May the Lord help us to take these words to heart. Shalom.
