Remove Accursed Things

Joshua 7:1-13
But the children of Israel committed a trespass in the accursed thing: for Achan … took of the accursed thing. (Joshua 7:1).

The dictionary defines “accursed” as, “things under a curse, detestable and annoying”.  Accursed things are the things that the Lord frowns at in our lives. They are symbols of our connection to the occult world, to idolatry, or they could be demonic things in our homes.

Before we became born-again, some of us had been involved in black magic, bought some items that could attract demonic presence etc. All these things must be destroyed so that we can be free.

Joshua and the Israelites thought that all was well until they went to battle with Ai and saw their own nakedness. That is what closed heaven does. It makes you vulnerable to the attacks of the enemy. The Bible says, “Therefore the children of Israel could not stand before their enemies, but turned their backs before their enemies, because they were accursed” (Joshua 7:12a).In some cases, deliverance may be required. In the book of Acts, we saw that those who believed brought out their old items of idolatry. They were burnt. See Acts 19:19. If we do not follow their example, the accursed things may eventually becloud our heavens.

The solution is to consecrate ourselves and all that we have to the Lord. Let us get rid of the Achan in our lives so that we can live in victory as the Lord helps us to live for Him.

Your Turn

  • Ask the Lord to open your eyes to the accursed things in    your life. It may be a relationship that is not pleasing unto Him or a habit.
