Punishment For Abusive Leaders

Micah 2:1-11
I’m planning a disasterto punish your family. You won’t be able to rescue yourselves. You will no longer be able to walk proudly. This will be a time of disaster.
Micah 2:3, GWT.

We turn to the book of Micah for confirmatory prophecies. These days we hear of verbal and non-verbal abuse. We
know about child abuse, domestic violence, workplace, and sexual harassment, etc.

Today’s Bible passage takes our attention to leaders who abuse the power given to them by the people. It exposes leaders who took advantage of their followers to exploit them. These leaders become rich while their followers continue to wallow in abject poverty.

Remarkably, the passage mirrors what is happening in many nations around the world. We have leaders who are super rich through corruption and misappropriation of funds. But their nations live in poverty.

Look at this: “They desire other people’s fields, so they seize them. They desire people’s houses, so they take them. They cheat a man and his family, a man and his inheritance” (Micah 2:2). The Lord says this will not continue forever. Why? He will judge the leaders who abuse the power given to them or the power they forcefully took from those who would have governed rightly.

The Lord says: “I’m planning a disaster to punish your family. You won’t be able to rescue yourselves. You will no longer be able to walk proudly. This will be a time of disaster” (Micah 2:3, GWT). Let us retrace our steps before it is too late. When the Lord judges, it will be brutal. Selah!
