Preparing To Contend
Jude 3; Luke 14:25-33
I found it necessary to write to you exhorting you to contend earnestly for the faith which was once for all delivered to the saints (Jude 3).
In order to contend earnestly for the faith, Jude introduced us to two courses of action. This include inward and external action. The first action explains the need for us to be adequately prepared. The battle we are fighting is not only an intellectual or ideological battle, it is also a spiritual battle.
In reality we are contending for the faith with the aim of changing the mind of those who are living in error or preach wrong doctrines. We contend with the aim of changing their perception of reality, moral values, approach to and respect for God.
This will require that we are armed with all that is needed. Jesus told his audience, “For which of you, intending to build a tower, does not sit down first and count the cost, whether he has enough to finish it – lest, after he has laid the foundation, and is not able to finish, all who see it begin to mock him”( Luke 14:28-29).
How can we face and fight these certain men and what they preach if we do not know the truth? Therefore, the first line of preparation is to know the truth. We must focus on obtaining sound teachings of the word of God.
As we move on in this section, it is my prayer that we will gain knowledge and serve the King with joy. Shalom.
