Opening The Heaven
2 Chronicles 7:13-16
If my people, which are called by my name, shall humble themselves, and pray, and seek my face. (2 Chronicles 7: 14).
From today we will look at some of the things we need to do in order to open the heaven if it closes.
Repentance: The first key to securing an open heaven is repentance. Heartfelt repentance is what is required from a man who realizes that the heaven over his head has been shut. It is this repentant heart that King David called a broken heart. See 2 Chronicles 7:17.Whenever we err let us be quick to ask for forgiveness from God.
Friend, repentance is the foundation for securing an open heaven. When you are not forgiven by God, your worship or giving remains mere rituals and therefore unacceptable. Self-righteousness is a dangerous trap because the heart of man is so wicked and deceitful. We must avoid it.St Augustine writes: “Before God can deliver us from ourselves, we must undeceive ourselves”. Today’s Bible reading describes the complete process of repentance. Recognizing we have done wrong, deciding to confess it, and asking God to forgive us is what will lead us into a new season with God.
The Bible says, “If My people who are called by My name will humble themselves, and pray and seek My face … I will hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin and heal their land”( 2 Chronicles 7:14). This should be our goal too. Shalom.
Your Turn
- Ask the Lord to search you and help you to repent of anything that has contributed to closed heaven in your life or church.
- Pray for me and my family that we would seek His face too.
