Not Exempted
1 Kings 17:17-24
So she said to Elijah, “What have I to do with you, O man of God? Have you come to me to bring my sin to remembrance, and to kill my son?”
1 Kings 17: 18.
Friend, the fact that you are serving God does not exempt you from the adversities of life. Sometimes it makes you
even more vulnerable to them. See Matthew 5:11-12.
The widow served God by feeding the man of God. But satan was not happy, he attacked her son. She ran for help. In her pain, she said, “What have I to do with you, O man of God? Have you come to me to bring my sin to remembrance, and to kill my son?” (1 Kings 17:18). God was merciful, He intervened for her. Elijah prayed and God heard him.
This reminds me of what the Bible says in Psalm 23. “Though I pass through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil”. Why? “For You are with me”. See Psalm 23:4. God’s presence in our lives guarantees our safety. I do not fear the shadows because the reality, God’s presence, is with me.
No matter the challenge in life, God is there for you. In every situation remember God’s word. Run to Him for help and safety. Remember His word: “When you pass through the waters, I will be with you; and through the rivers, they shall not overflow you. When you walk through the fire, you shall not be burned, nor shall the flame scorch you” (Isaiah 43:2). May the Lord hear us when we pray. Shalom.
Your Turn
- Thank God for the word of life He has spoken to us.
- Pray for the wisdom to run to God when you do not know what to do.
