Judges 21:25
In those days there was no king in Israel; everyone did what was right in his own eyes (Judges 17:6).
The word ‘trouble’ as a noun means difficulty or problems. It means public unrest or disorder. The “Merriam Webster Dictionary” defines it as the quality or state of being troubled, especially mentally, public unrest or
disturbance. A state or condition of distress, annoyance or difficulty. As a verb, it means to become mentally agitated or to be at pain.
When linked to our topic, I believe many of us are presently agitated, worried and pained about the state of our world. We have seen lawlessness becoming the order of the day. How about the incessant public unrest, killings and disorders in our towns and villages? The political palace is not immune to it.
One is tempted to say political and religious fanaticism appear to be one of the major troubles around the world. Our
days are becoming like the days in the book of Judges. The Bible says, “In those days there was no king in Israel;
everyone did what was right in his own eyes” (Judges 17:6). Sins and disobedience to the laws and ways of God abound.
The passage we read says people did what seems right in their own eyes. This is exactly what is happening in our time. May the Lord have mercy on us. Let us pray.
