Misplaced Priority
Haggai 1:1-11
Therefore the heavens above you have withheld the dew, and the earth has withheld its produce. (Haggai 1:10, RSV).
Misplaced priority is another cause of closed heaven. When someone does not value the things that God values it may lead to close heaven. God will no longer derive pleasure from such life.
John the Apostle alluded to the fact that God wants glory and praise from our lives. “You are worthy, O Lord, to receive glory and honor and power; for You created all things, and by Your will they exist and were created” (Revelation 4:12). This must be our focus. Anything less of this may lead to disapproval.
For example, God might have instructed you to build a house for Him as He commanded the Israelites and you said, “Yes”, but you decided to build your own house first, this is, misplaced priority.
God shut the heavens and withheld prosperity and abundance from people of Judah as a result of misplaced priority. He said, “Therefore the heavens above you have withheld the dew, and the earth has withheld its produce” (Haggai 1:10, RSV).
Friend, God shuts the heavens because He still loves us and wants to restore us to the path of righteousness. If we would just return and repent as we are advised in verses 7&8, then the heaven will be open to us again.
Remember, hardship and struggles follow closed heavens.
Timely obedience and repentance will open the heaven. Shalom.
