Living Without God

Judges 3:12-30
Again the Israelites cried out to the LORD, and he gave them a deliverer—Ehud, a left-handed man, the son of  Gera the Benjamite. The Israelites sent him with tribute to Eglon king of Moab (Judges 3:15, NIV).

As I thought about the events that took place in the day of the Judges and how the people lived without God, it dawned on me that living without God is not the best way to live. How can we live without God and survive when God is the one who controls everything?

Why would a people continue to live in sin and then cry out to God for help; they get help and go back into sin again? I do not get it. But my heart cries out for me, for you and our generation that  we would not repeat what these people did in their time. I pray that we would not be a generation that would live without God.

Could this be one of the reasons our world is in the state it is? Could our attitude to God and understanding of freedom be the reason why we are continually being plagued by wars, drought and famine, political and spiritual crisis? Could it be that we are a people who have failed to seek the face of the Lord when we know that things are wrong?

The passage we read showed us that when they prayed God answered. He raised Ehud for them and the land had peace for eighty years. Friend, let us cry out to God as we look at the happenings in our city, nation and the world at large. Let us pray.

Your Turn

  • Think about your life, the condition of your city, nation and the world?
  • Think about the insurgents around the world and migrant crisis, internally displaced people in many countries?
  • Ask the Holy Spirit to give you a burden to pray on these issues.

Song: Holy, Holy, Holy/2x Holy is the Lord, God Almighty.
