Lethargy In The Church

Revelation 3:1-6
Be watchful, and strengthen the things which remain, that are ready to die, for I have not found your works perfect before God (Revelation 3:2).

John Piper wrote, “The enemies of the Christian doctrine are professing Christians who do not hold to the faith once for all delivered to the saints”. This lack of commitment has led to the present lethargy in our congregations.

We have people coming to church who have no commitment to Christ. We see people in our midst whose lifestyle does not depict that of Christ. Yet, we watch and do nothing about it. These are the ones who could become prey in the hands of false teachers.

Recently, I heard of a family that became a victim to one “prophet”. The couple attended a program where a familiar spirit in a woman spoke with his wife’s voice. She made confession to several offenses and evil she did. This has led to the separation of the couple.

When I heard it, I wondered if the couple had not heard of familiar spirits in the Bible. I also wondered if these ones had an ongoing relationship with Christ through prayer and the study of the word to know the primary way that God speaks to us.

You see, the longer we permit lethargy in the church, the more we and our congregations will be exposed to wrong doctrines that could have been averted. This is another reason we need to fight for the truth of the gospel of Christ. Shalom.
