Jonathan Took Responsibility

1 Samuel 14:1-23
Come, let us go over to the garrison of these uncircumcised; it may be that the Lord will work for us. For nothing restrains the Lord from saving by many or by few (1 Samuel 14:16).

Today’s passage gave us an example of a man who took his life in his hands and faced the enemy. Jonathan accepted responsibility. He faced the reality that the enemy had to be confronted or else they would remain in the fear of the Philistines.

Knowing that God loves them, He told his servant, “Come, let us go over to the garrison of these uncircumcised; it may be that the Lord will work for us. For nothing restrains the Lord from saving by many or by few” (vs. 16). Jonathan’s attitude was that God could do something if we do our part. With the support of his servant, he moved towards the enemy.

Receiving the right reaction, he told him, “Come up after me, for the Lord has delivered them into the hand of Israel” (vs. 12b). God saw his faith and the enemy were routed. With this action, he exposed his father’s weakness and risk aversion.

Someone has said that, “We cannot continue to pray, O God do something. It is time to begin to pray, ‘O God show me what to do so I can do it then You can do Your part’ “. As soon as Jephthah set out, God helped him and gave him the victory. Jonathan did the same and God helped them. The priest stepped into the water and the Jordan River parted. God is waiting on you too. Shalom.
