Jesus’ Life Impact And Influence
Luke 4:16-30
The Spirit of the LORD is upon me, for he has anointed me to bring Good News to the poor. He has sent me to proclaim that captives will be released … that the oppressed will be set free.
Luke 4:18, NLT
Today’s Bible passage summarized the life and influence of Jesus’ ministry. Jesus read out Isaiah 61:1- 2 loud to
the hearing of His audience to inform them about His mission and purpose in their midst.
Filled with the power of God, He overcame the enemy. He was equipped and ready to start His assignment. He told
those who were in the temple, “The Spirit of the LORD is upon me, for he has anointed me to bring Good News to the
poor. He has sent me to proclaim that captives will be released, that the blind will see, that the oppressed will be set
free” (Luke 4:18, NLT).
This sounds like: “I am not here to play. I know why I am here, and I am ready to hit the ground running. I know you
won’t all like Me but I don’t care anyway. This work has to be done!”. From then on, Jesus began to teach, preach, heal and deliver those that were oppressed of the devil. See Acts 10:38.
Friend, the Jesus we serve is a purpose-driven Savior. He lived a purposeful life. We ought to learn that from Him. He focused on His assignment to please the Father. So should we. He knew His call was to save and set at liberty. This He did. Do we know our call and purpose? Are we following it? Let us pray.
