It Shows We Care
Luke 19:46-48
It is written, ‘My house is a house of prayer; but you have made it a den of thieves’ (Luke 19:46).
So far, we have learnt that we need to contend and fight the good fight of faith because we have been commanded, and if we fail to do so our common salvation is at stake. If this happens we will allow heresy and wrong doctrines to thrive. This is not the will of God.
Today, I want to add that when we contend for the faith, it shows we care. It reveals our love for the truth and for God. It also shows that we care for people and for the glory of God. Consumed with passion for His father’s house, Jesus fought those who sold items in the temple. He told them, “It is written, ‘My house is a house of prayer; but you have made it a den of thieves’ ” (vs. 46).
The truth is worth dying for and that is what many fathers of faith did. The martyrs gave their lives for the truth of the gospel. They chose to die than deny the faith. Many of them died because they failed to deny God or change their confession about grace.
Apostle Paul became a prisoner for Christ because he stood for the truth revealed to him about the grace of God. As John Piper said, “If the truth is lost, salvation is lost”. This is the ultimate goal of heretical teachings. We must watch.
Your Turn
- Ask the Lord to grant you for understanding of the need to contend.
- Pray about your needs.
Song: I stand, I stand in awe of You.
