Intimate Communion

Genesis 15:1 – 6
But Abram said, “Lord God, what will You give me, seeing I go childless, and the heir of my house is Eliezer of Damascus?”. (Genesis 15:2).

or me, today’s Bible reading is one of the high points in the story of Abraham. I am touched by his openness and sincerity with God. The passage reveals to me that I can be intimate with God without being afraid of Him, yet reverencing Him in my life as my Father and God.

In the passage we saw Abraham’s response to God during their intimate communion. It shows that you and I can be open before God and not hide who we are and our feelings from Him. He already sees and knows them anyway. We can be honest yet remain friends.

Imagine Abraham telling God in verse 2, “That’s alright Dad. But you know what? I do not have a child yet, so I don’t even know who is going to inherit and enjoy all these promises and blessings You are talking about”. Surprisingly, God responded to Abraham. His response defined the next 15 years of his life as he waited for the promise.

God told him, “This one shall not be your heir, but one who will come from your own body shall be your heir” (Genesis 15:4). Abraham “believed in the Lord, and He accounted it to him for righteousness” (Genesis 15:6.). That was it. The deal was sealed by Abraham’s faith.

Can we use some wisdom here? Let us pray.
