Intercession For Our City And Nation

Micah 1:1 – 7
Therefore I will make Samaria a heap of ruins in the field, Places for planting a vineyard; I will pour down her stones into the valley, And I will uncover her foundations. (Micah 1:6).

The need to be purposeful and deliberate in interceding for our city and nation is even more than before. We live in a time that iniquity abounds everywhere. We live in a time when it is obvious that common sense is no longer common.

On a daily basis, our generation is becoming more and more anti-God in all ramifications.  The news is replete with stories that were unheard of 20 or 30 years ago. But God expects us to do something. We are in the world at this time for a reason. God has called us to be light and salt. We must not fail Him. What are we to do?

First, we must admit our sin. Second, we are to pray and intercede for our families, cities and nations before the Lord. We live here and we must use the weapons of prayer and intercession to influence the affairs of our environment – the earth. See 1 Timothy 2: 1-4.

We could see from the passage we read that God can take the sin of a city as the offence of a nation. For example, the sinful activities of Lagos or New York could constitute sin for Nigeria or the United States of America. We must pray because our city could be the sinning one. If judgment comes we will feel its effect more. May the Lord stir your heart to pray. Shalom.

Your Turn

  • Pray and plead for mercy over your land.
  • Ask the Lord to purge the land of any sin.
  • Pray for salvation and the touch of God in your city.

Song: We will worship the lamb of glory.
