Intentional Mentoring
Titus 2:1-10
Likewise exhort the young men to be sober-minded. (Titus 2:6).
While I was writing this devotional, I came across a quote that says: “It takes a man to teach a man how to be a man”. I found it to be fitting for today’s devotional thought.
As someone who is involved in coaching and mentoring at work and church, I have realized that the church needs to be intentional in its mentoring roles. Many young people need someone to walk with them. Many young marriages are going through serious challenges that except the church takes immediate actions things could get worse.
We need men and women to rise up and mentor others in the church. A mentor is a wise and trusted counselor or teacher. Christian mentoring must be focused on love and the word of God. Our desire must be to help someone to grow into maturity in Christ and accomplish God’s purpose.
The passage we read makes this clear. Paul writes to Titus saying, “Likewise exhort the young men to be sober-minded” (Titus 2:6). We need this in our time. Forget about the facade younger men and women show. They need the help and support of others to be well groomed to take up responsibilities in life.
This is our responsibility. Let us not shy away from it. The Lord will help us. Shalom.
Your Turn
- Shall we rise up to this challenge and obey God?
- Or we will fold our hands and let the world become role models for the children of the kingdom of God?
- As a young person, will you be humble enough to ask someone older and more mature than you to mentor you?
Hymn: To the work, to the work we will go.
