His Teachings
Luke 11:1-13
For everyone who asks receives, and he who seeks finds, and to him who knocks it will be opened.
Luke 11:10
One of the core assignments of Jesus was teaching. Everywhere He went He taught the people about the Kingdom. His teachings cut across many areas of life. Some of these teachings are recorded for us to learn from them.
Today, we will look at His teachings on prayer. The passage we read revealed how Jesus’ disciples asked Him to teach
them how to pray. Why? They saw Him praying and observed the effect of His prayers compared to theirs.
He told them, “When you pray, say: Our Father in heaven, hallowed be Your name. Your kingdom come. Your will be
done on earth as it is in heaven” (Luke 11:2). The Father in heaven is the object of our worship and the One we pray to. He also emphasized the need to forgive others so we can receive forgiveness from the father.
He concluded with a story that illustrates the need for us to be persistent in prayer until we receive the answer. Jesus spoke convincingly about the Father’s ability to hear and answer. He said, “For everyone who asks receives, and he who seeks finds, and to him who knocks it will be opened” (Luke 11:10).
This is the pattern to follow. May we be encouraged to learn from the Master and heed His teachings on prayer. May our prayers bring results that will fetch us joy. Shalom.
