Hindrances to Assurance (I)

Ephesians 1: 15-21
The eyes of your understanding being enlightened; that you may know what is the hope of His calling, what are the riches of the glory of His inheritance in the saints (Ephesians 1:18).

The New birth brings confidence. We are confident that if we die we would be with the Lord. Yet, many professed believers do not have this confidence. There are many hindrances to this kind of assurance.

  1. Zero salvation: By this, I mean they were never saved in the first place. They have not heard the gospel to the point of believing it and placing their faith in Christ Jesus as the firm foundation for their salvation. Hence, their lack of assurance. They could be church goers but they are not saved.

Solution: Believe the gospel. Jesus paid the price for your sins when He died on the cross. He rose again on the third day so that you can spend eternity with Him. When you believe it, you will be saved.

  1. Lack of spiritual growth: This is a common hindrance to assurance. When we fail to grow in our walk with God through prayer and study of His word, the confidence that we received at new birth will decrease. This would open the door to doubt and unbelief.

Solution: Seek to grow in your knowledge and the hope of your calling in Christ.

Friend, may “the eyes of your understanding be enlightened; that you may know what is the hope of His calling” in Jesus’ Name.

Shalom.
