He Was An Intercessor

Genesis 18:17 – 33
Far be it from You to do such a thing as this, to slay the  righteous with the wicked, so that the righteous should  be as the wicked; far be it from You! Shall not the Judge of all the earth do right? (Genesis 18:25).

Abraham saw the heart of God and His desire for us to intercede, pray for one another and for our nation. This desire for an intercessor was captured clearly in the words of the prophet, Ezekiel, in Ezekiel 22:30.

The Bible says, “So I sought for a man among them who would make a wall, and stand in the gap before Me on behalf of the land, that I should not destroy it; but I found no one” (Ezekiel 22:30). It means without intercessors the land could be destroyed. It also means we need to thank God for those who continue to pray for us, our families, cities and nation.

He told God, “Far be it from You to do such a thing as this, to slay the righteous with the wicked, so that the righteous should be as the wicked? (Genesis 18:25). What audacity and boldness? While reading today’s Bible passage, I thought about what would have happened if Abraham had reduced the number from 10 to 5 or 3. Who knows maybe the judgement could have been averted. Yet, through his intercession Abraham demonstrated his love for others. He took it upon himself to intercede and stand in the gap for Sodom and Gomorrah.

Friend, let us be concerned for others and pray for our leaders, church and city. Great evil could be averted through our intercession. Shalom.
