He Possessed Attentiveness

Genesis 22:1-19
Then He said, “Take now your son, your only son Isaac, whom you love, and go to the land of Moriah, and offer him there as a burnt offering on one of the mountains of which I shall tell you.” (Genesis 22:2).

The story of the young Samuel in 1 Samuel Chapter 3 shows us that it takes a level of judgement, walk with God and spiritual growth to hear and discern God’s voice. When Samuel heard God’s voice, he did not know who called him until his mentor, Eli, directed and instructed him.

In the same manner, throughout the story of Abraham, we could see how Abraham demonstrated a high level of attentiveness to God’s voice and His leadership. His movement from the Ur of the Chaldees was possible because of his ability to discern God’s voice and followed the direction he received. In Genesis Chapter 15, God spoke to him, Abraham knew it was God and continued to grow.

All the way, either by dreams or visions or physical visitation, Abraham knew that he was dealing with God. Hence, it was easy for him to know when God spoke to him to sacrifice his son, Isaac. If it were some of us we would have said, “God forbid”. Not Father Abraham. He knew God so well and how to discern His voice.

If Abraham had missed this, he would have missed out on the covenant and the pronounced blessing in Genesis Chapter 22. Friend, let us up our game and draw closer to God so that we can discern His voice and receive His blessing to move to the next level. Shalom.

Your Turn

  • Thank God for the example of faith Abraham presented to us.
  • Pray that you will thirst after a deeper walk with God.
