Final Greetings
3 John 13-14
I hope to see you soon, and we will talk face to face. Peace to you. The friends here send their greetings. Greet the friends there by name. (3 John 14, NIV).
The tone of the Apostle’s final words shows the importance that he placed on his relationship with his friends and
brethren. It also reveals his value for fellowship. He must have been an intimate person. We cut a glimpse of this in the way he rested his head on Jesus’ shoulder when he was younger.
His expectation of freedom is also significant. So also, is his faith in his physical strength and ability to move around. He told Gaius, “I hope to see you soon, and we will talk face to face. Peace to you” (3 John 14, NIV). That is faith in action.
Below is a summary of what we have learned:
1. We are admonished to walk in love and live in the truth because God is love and Jesus Christ is the truth.
2. We must love one another because we have been loved by God.
3. Jesus is the Son of God. He gives eternal life.
4. The Holy Spirit is in us to help live life as believers.
5. We must be alert to false teachers and their teachings, so we would not be deceived.
6. We must value fellowship and unity with the brethren.
7. Be generous to one another.
May the Lord bless us and help us as we live out these truths, in Jesus Name. Shalom.
