Enduring Faith

Hebrews 11:8  – 12
The Lord, the God of heaven… who spoke to me and promised me on oath, saying, “To your offspring I will give this landhe will send his angel before you so that  you can get a wife for my son from there” (Genesis 24:7, NIV).

Abraham’s faith in God and His promises were enduring and trusting. His enduring faith in God’s word and promises qualified him to be called the father of faith. His trust in God and His plans made him a friend of God.

Reflecting on today’s focal text, I understood the reason behind Abraham’s actions. It was faith in God and His power to do anything.  He told his servant, “The Lord, the God of heaven… he will send his angel before you so that you can get a wife for my son from there” (Genesis 24:7, NIV).

Well, it stands to reason to believe God this way, having experienced his intervention in his body to have a son with Sarah, who was 89 years old, at the age of 99. We do not have to wait till old age to believe God. We can learn from men and women who have walked with God; read their biographies to see how they did it, so that we can emulate them.

The Bible says, “By faith Abraham, when called to go to a place he would later receive as his inheritance, obeyed and went, even though he did not know where he was going” (Hebrews 11:8, NIV). May the Lord help us to build our faith to believe Him for the impossible and experience the unusual miracles, blessing and interventions of God. Shalom.
