Decision Point
Ruth 1:6-18
But Ruth replied, “Don’t ask me to leave you and turn back. Wherever you go, I will go; wherever you live, I will live. Your people will be my people, and your God will be my God” (Ruth 1:16, NLT).
The passage we read reveals another decision point to us. The first decision point was the one taken by Elimelech to go to Moab. The second was Naomi’s decision to return home. Today, we see the third decision point where the two young widows-Orpah and Ruth-decided whether to return to Bethlehem with Naomi or not.
We were not sure of the reason why Orpah finally returned to her family while Ruth stayed with Naomi. In the light of Naomi’s statement in verse 15, some commentators believe that Ruth had an encounter with the God of Israel that Orpah did not have. Hence, her resolve to return to her gods.
However, for Ruth, I believe something or someone greater compelled her to follow Naomi. I believe it was destiny that called her even though she could not place her hand on it. In her mind, she might have thought about who would care for Naomi on her return to Bethlehem. Her kindness and love helped her decide to go with Naomi. But unknown to her, God was calling her.
Friend, can you sense the Lord’s call on your heart to do something great with your life? Do you know what that is? Remember, one decision changed Ruth’s life forever. Your decision to follow God may change your life too. Think on these things. Shalom.
Your Turn
- Can you sense His call on your heart and His spirit drawing you into something greater than you?
- Talk to God about your life?
