Closed Heaven
Deuteronomy 11: 8-19
…Then the Lord’s wrath be kindled… and he shut up the heaven, that there be no rain, the land yield not her fruit. Deuteronomy 11:17).
The dictionary defines the word “closed”, a verb, to mean “shut, block up or to bring or come to an end”. The word close could also be used in relation to size, that is, grow smaller.
One definition that caught my attention presents “closed” to mean “limited to certain persons”. It is usually used in the corporate circle. It brings to mind the issue of qualification. Only those who are qualified or favored would have access to the system. Someone may be denied entrance, while others go in freely. Why? It is because they are known in the system.
In view of the above, closed heaven means that the heaven has been blocked or shut against someone or there is a denial of access to God. When someone is living under a closed heaven he or she will experience struggle, famine and hardship. Where there has been refreshing, staleness and dryness are experienced.
For example, when a man disobeys God, He may take the measure of closing the heavens over his life with the aim of leading them to seeking Him in repentance.
As we continue our meditation, let us pay attention; learn what to do and how to avoid a closed heaven. God is the head of our corporation and only He can decide who goes in. We must aspire to be in good terms with Him. Shalom.
Your Turn
- Thank God for the opportunity to know His word.
- Ask Him to continue to teach us His ways. Ask Him to open your heaven.
