Cast Your Burden (I)

Psalm 55:22
Cast your burden on the Lord, and He shall sustain you; He shall never permit the righteous to be moved.

To cast your burden upon the Lord is to release your concerns and the situations that are worrying you or giving you incessant anxieties to the Lord to help you with them. When we release our burdens to the Lord, we have given Him the permission to step in and help us.

To sustain is to make something to continue or maintain it for a period of time. It is to give help, strength or encouragement. Friend, I am glad to tell you that God will sustain you not for a period of time but for life. He has promised never to leave you nor forsake you. Since He is the same yesterday, today and forever, He cannot lie. See Hebrews 13:5, 8.

I have experienced and continue to experience God’s sustaining grace and power in my life. Without it, I would have  been long forgotten and out of ministry. I encourage you to do what today’s text says. Cast your care on Him, let Him sustain you.

Failing to cast our burdens on the Lord, means that we think we can manage things ourselves. Yet, none of us can sustain our lives for a minute. Charles Spurgeon writes: “The very essence of anxious care [and thoughts] is imagining that we are wiser than God”. Could this be the reason we would rather worry than pray? Let us pray.

Your Turn

  • Pray for yourself. Be wise, release some burdens to the Lord today.

Song: I will cast all my cares upon You.
