A Wise Man

Judges11:12-28
You keep whatever your god Chemosh gives you, and
we will keep whatever Jehovah our God gives us!
(Judges 11: 24, The Living Bible).

Having settled with the elders of the land, Jephthah got down to business. I am sure he communed with the Lord,
even though we were not told but later records of his
relationship with Him proved that he did.
The stirring of the Holy Spirit on him and divine direction led
to the next steps he took. He went on the offensive. He set the
pace to prove to the King of the Ammonites that he was fighting
a baseless fight because he (Jephthah) knew the facts (see vs.
12).
Reading through verses 14 and 27, I was challenged by the
depth of Jephthah’s knowledge of the history of his people. He
had all the facts at his fingertips. He was a leader and true
Israelite. While others were fighting to stay in their father’s
house, he busied himself studying history, learning from those
who knew and at the same time training.
His sense of destiny helped him to focus on what mattered
most. Perhaps he knew that one day he would deliver his
people from those Canaanites. What do you think about verse
27? How many believers are conscious of their covenant rights
in God? Jephthah knew theirs.
He used the covenant to reply his enemy. We can do the same
too, when we say, “It is written” to the enemy and negative
situations that are harassing us.
