A Habit Worth Dying For

Psalm 55:16 -18
Evening and morning and at noon I will pray, and cry aloud, And He shall hear my voice (Psalm 55:17).

The Encarta Dictionary defines the word habit as “regularly repeated behavior, pattern, attitude or an
addiction.” Its synonyms include custom, tradition, and routine. I love the word addiction. Its positive usage means to have “great interest in a particular thing to which a lot of time is devoted.”

Friend, for you to experience the full potential of prayer, it must have its hold on you. For prayer to have the hold that is needed on us, it must become a habit. We must become addicted to praying, to the point that we cannot do without it daily. Because it is a positive addiction, you do not have to worry about breaking it!

Think of these words from an old saint of God: “How important is prayer to you? Is it a habit worth dying for? Or, would someone need to pass a law demanding daily prayer or a trip to the lions’ den to get you into the habit of prayer? People are willing to die for that which is of great importance to them. Prayer should be that important! It is our link to God. Without the lifeline of prayer, we grow spiritually weak.”

I want to pray and intercede for nations and for my neighbors. I want to pray for my needs as well as engage in warfare as the Lord teaches my hands to war so that my enemies will surrender at the sound of His Name. What is your desire?

Your Turn

  • Ask for the grace you need to make prayer a daily habit.
  • Pray that God will revive the church to become more prayerful.

Hymn: Praise my soul, the King of heaven.
