Friends Are Indispensable

1 Samuel 19:1-7
And I will go out….and I will commune with my father of thee; and what I see, that I will tell thee (1 Samuel 19:3).

Friend, we need to be surrounded with good friends. We need friends who are born again and love God because God gives us friends and relationships for protection. We need godly friends who will stand by us in the day of adversity.

Jonathan was a friend indeed. He served as a protective covering for David even when it looked stupid to the ordinary
mind. In order to have good and lasting relationship, we need the following:

1. Seek friendship with someone who will be committed to a lifelong relationship. There is no sense in changing close friends year in year out.
2. Your friends must have personal vision that they are pursuing or else they will hinder you from achieving yours.
3. Seek to improve each other’s life. It should be symbiotic and not parasitic. If there is nothing you can contribute to your friend’s life, it may be that you are in a mentorship relationship and not friendship.
4. You must be able to correct each other truthfully. If Samson had had good friends they might have warned and corrected him about his lifestyle and eventual downfall

Your Turn

  • Pray about your needs for true and committed friends.
  • Pray for your friends that God will help and promote them.

Song: Praise God Alleluia. Praise God Amen.
