Identify Your Widow
1 Kings 17:8-16
“Arise, go to Zarephath, which belongs to Sidon, and dwell there. See, I have commanded a widow there to provide for you”.
1 Kings 17:9.
God is always at work around us. All we need to do is to discern where He is and join Him. Once again, God did
not choose a king to feed His servant. He chose a widow.
Interestingly, the widow He chose appears to be unaware that she was carrying a commanded blessing. Physically, all
she could see was her empty bin of flour that contained just enough flour to feed her and her son.
Look at verse 13, Elijah said to her, “Do not fear; go and do as you have said, but make me a small cake from it first, and bring it to me; and afterward make some for yourself and your son”. Why does God do this sometimes? You are in need, yet that is the time you are told to sow a seed in the church or meet others’ needs. It does not agree with our
thinking; but if the word is from the Lord, you will indeed come back with a good harvest.
The woman responded positively because she heard the word of the Lord. “The bin of flour shall not be used up, nor
shall the jar of oil run dry, until the day the Lord sends rain on the earth” (1 Kings 17:14). May God help us to hear Him and identify our man of God. Then we will not miss our opportunity. The dynamic faith believes God’s word.
Shalom.
