Guard Your Heart

Luke 6:43-45
A good man out of the good treasure of his heart brings forth good; and an evil man out of the evil treasure of his heart brings forth evil. For out of the abundance of the heart his mouth speaks (Luke 6:45).

The Bible says, “Guard your heart above all else, for it determines the course of your life” (Proverbs 4:23; NLT).
The next duty we must perform is to guard our heart. The time of trouble and difficult season is not the time to give in to depression or accommodate depressing thoughts. We must stay positive. The word of God is full of hope. Feed on it.

This is not the time to think or allow the devil to suggest to you that it is not worth it to serve the Lord. Don’t do that. If you do, you will become overwhelmed by the devil. This will open the door for more stumbling on your path. It will also cause you to fall into the trap or bait of the enemy.

Remember the Apostle’s warning: “Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil walks about like a roaring lion, seeking whom he may devour. Resist him, steadfast in the faith” (1 Peter 5:8-9). We must watch! The Bible further states that, “A good man out of the good treasure of his heart brings forth good; and an evil man out of the evil treasure of his heart brings forth evil. For out of the abundance of the heart his mouth speaks” (Luke 6:45).

May the Lord help us and strengthen our hearts. May our hearts harbor good treasure and positive thoughts about the Lord, we and situations to keep us safe in the day of trouble. Shalom.

Your Turn

  • Are you a good man? Are the words coming from your mouth affirming this claim?
  • How good are you at guarding your heart from negative and depressing thoughts?
  • Talk to God.
