Wanted: Humble Men

Genesis 18:27
Then Abraham answered and said, “Indeed now, I who am but dust and ashes have taken it upon myself to speak to the Lord”. (Genesis 18:27).

Abraham never took for granted the grace, love and favor that he had before God. He understood that he was made of dust. He remembered where God took him from. In spite of his wealth and riches, Abraham continued to humble himself before the Lord.

He pleaded with God as he stood in prayers for others saying, “Indeed now, I who am but dust and ashes have taken it upon myself to speak to the Lord” (Genesis 18:27). Abraham reverenced the Lord. No wonder, he was called the friend of God. His humility and friendship endeared him to God’s heart and God shared His mind with him.

A proud Abraham could have said, “I care less about those evil people and even my nephew who continues to get into trouble”. No! He humbled himself and stood in the gap for them. Friend, God is looking for men who are not conceited. Men who are not full of themselves. God wants men like Paul who are not ashamed to say, “I am what I am by the grace of God” (1 Corinthians 15:1).

Only humble men will see the intervention of the Holy God in their life and circumstances. Abraham grew closer to God as He watched God intervened on behalf of Lot and his family. Let us be careful and seek God with humility. Are you a humble person?
