Regular Spiritual Checks
2 Corinthians 13:5
Examine yourselves, whether ye be in the faith; prove your own selves
Regular medical checkup is now widely advocated as non-communicable diseases like hypertension and diabetes are becoming leading causes of death in the world. The goal is to detect them early and manage them appropriately.
In the same way, we need to engage in regular spiritual checkup. We must cultivate the habit of opening ourselves up to regular scrutiny of the Holy Spirit in order to be sure that our hearts are right with Lord. The Psalmist says, “Search me, O God, and know my heart: try me, and know my thoughts: And see if there be any wicked way in me, and lead me in the way everlasting” (Psalm 139:23-24).
Pride is one of the things that could creep into our hearts unknowingly. The sincere question to ask is, Who takes the glory for all that God is using you for? Who takes the glory for the success of your ministry and business? Thank God for your connections and business associates. But who gave them to you? When you begin to replace God’s help with your ability, pride and self is at the corner.
The solution is to humble ourselves and continue to seek God’s grace daily to love and serve Him. See James 5:8. When you know that without Him you are nothing and can do nothing, grace will attend to you.
Your Turn
- Worship Him in humbleness.
