Contributing To Christ’s Suffering

Colossians 1:24-25
I am glad when I suffer for you in my body, for I am participating in the sufferings of Christ that continue for his body, the church (Colossians 1:24, New Living Translation).

The Bible says “count it all joy when you fall into various trials” (James 1:2). Today’s focal text gives us a clear understanding of the reason we need to endure hardship or persecution. Paul told his audience: “I am glad when I suffer for you in my body, for I am participating in the sufferings of Christ that continue for his body, the church” (vs.24, New Living Translation).

Why? Based on his experience with God and walk with Him, Paul understood that any suffering in the body is for the church of Christ. Whether He faces persecution, famine, trials or segregation, as long as he has the opportunity to preach the gospel and reach more people for Christ, he is contented. Paul sees his suffering as part of his contribution to the suffering of Christ for His body – the church.

Friend, generations of believers in Christ, men and women, have continued to make sacrifices and suffer one thing or the other for the sake of Christ. If we understand this it will help us to change our perception and attitude towards the current persecutions that Christians are facing around the world. It would also help us to stand strong against satanically-induced world views.

Christ paid the ultimate prize. Our suffering is a contribution. Our reward awaits us in heaven. Be encouraged and keep your faith in God. Shalom.

Your Turn

  • Praise Him for His faithfulness to you, your family and everyone around you.
  • Pray for the grace to stand strong for Him as you suffer one thing or the other.

Song:  Be not dismay whatver betides. God will take care of you.
