It’s Up To You
Mark 9:14-29
Jesus said to him, “If you can believe, all things are possible to him who believes” (Mark 9:23).
The father of the boy in our devotional reading did what most of us usually do and say. Many times we say: if it will be it is up to God. But Jesus’ response to him shows us otherwise.
The father of the boy says, “If You can do anything, have compassion on us and help us”. Jesus said to him, “If you can believe, all things are possible to him who believes” (vs. 22b23). Jesus made him to understand that it is not up to Him. It is actually up to the man to believe because if you believe anything is possible.
Another translation says, “What do you mean, ‘If I can’?” Jesus asked. “Anything is possible if a person believes” (Mark 9:23, New Living Translation). Friend, I believe it is time for us to reflect on what we believe and our attitude to God and faith in Him.
Have we unconsciously passed the responsibility of building our faith to God when He is expecting us to present our faith to Him so that He can make the impossible possible in our lives? Have we fallen into spiritual lethargy while we think we are still in faith? Like the father of the young boy, it is my prayer that we will cry out and pray, “Lord, I believe; help my unbelief!” Shalom.
Your Turn
- Look into your life and check if you are walking in faith or unbelief.
- Ask the Lord to help you as you seek to build your faith in Him.
