God’s Call To Holiness

1 Thessalonians 4:7; 1 Peter 1:13 -17
For God did not call us to be impure, but to live a holy life (1 Thessalonians 4:7, NIV).

When I was young in faith (I am still growing!), I used to be afraid of the word “holiness”. I thought that it was a feat that could not be achieved. When I sang the hymn, “Holy, Holy, Holy, Lord God Almighty”, I had unrest in my soul because I knew I did not match up to His holiness standard.

But I realized that God, who has called me to holiness, would also empower me to live right. Following this revelation, I became comfortable when I realized that holiness simply means living in reverence and obedience to God.

I came to understand that my sanctification comes from Him. He is at work in me and He is changing me all the time, helping me to conform to His image. He is also willing to supply the grace that I need to live a pure life.

Friend, relax, allow God to help you to live the life that He has called you to live. Let us cease from our struggles and trust God. “How can you do it”, you ask? Well, turn it over to the Holy Spirit. Ask Him to fill you with His power and help you to respond to His promptings as He leads you. He does not lead to sin but to holiness.

As you do this, you will be free from an impure life to a holy one. Shalom.

Your Turn

  • Reflect on the above and pray for yourself. Pray for your family too.
  • Pray for me and my family that we will pursue the Holy Spirit and please the Lord. Thank you.

Song:  Holy, holy, holy Lord God Almighty.
