Diligence Is Required

2  Peter  1:5-10
But also for this very reason, giving all diligence, add  to your faith virtue, to virtue knowledge (2 Peter 1:5).

Based on the evidence from the Scripture, we know our salvation is secure. All we need to do is to seek to experience and enjoy that security.

The passage we read shows us how we can make effort to add to our faith and continue to grow. The Bible says, “Giving all diligence, add to your faith virtue, to virtue knowledge”. It means we have a role to play.

The seven things we are to add are listed in verses 5-7:

  1. Virtue: This is the pursuit of a life of honesty and
  2. Knowledge: This involves the continuous growth and acquisition of the knowledge of who we are in Christ and what we have been given.
  3. Self-control: Someone has said, “Self-control is breaking your will to sin”.
  4. Perseverance or patience: We need patience to stand for God, the truth, and also face any temptation no matter the cost to us because we love Jesus.
  5. Godliness: We continue to seek to be holy and be like God.
  6. Brotherly kindness: Showing kindness to others because God has been kind to us.
  7. Love: Living in love, seeking to live a life of forgiveness.

The more we add these qualities, the more we will know that we are in the right direction, and the more our assurance grows.

Your Turn
